The Manual Orchestra is open to students who are interested in furthering their skills in performing music on the orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and double bass). Concert Orchestra is primarily for sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have already demonstrated knowledge and abilities in basic and intermediate playing technique. Cadet Orchestra is designed for freshmen and those who are less experienced players. Both groups perform on several formal music department concerts each year.

Individual students are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to participate in IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest and IMEA District Festival auditions.
