What does JROTC stand for?
JROTC stands for Junior Reserve Officers Traning Corps.
What does the JROTC program offer?
The JROTC program is an elective corse which awards a half credit to freshman, and a full credit for 10th through 12th graders. JROTC provides interesting classroom instruction combined the the opportunity to serve the school and community, participate in extra-curricular activities, enjoy active social programs, and have the opportunity for early leadership responsibilities.
What exactly is taught in the JROTC class?
JROTC covers a wide range of topics from citizenship skills, leadership theory and application, foundations for success, wellness, first aid, fitness, geography and American history/government. The main focus is on leadership, service to others and life after high school.
Will I or do I have to be in the armed force?
Of couse not! There is NO obligation of any kind and most students have no interest in going into the military after graduation. However, for those who are interested, there are some very real benefits.
Im going to college, is this a good preparation?
JROTC course material is academically sound and enhances the college preparation curriculum. JROTC is always well represented in the ranks of the National Honor Society, National Merit Scholarship, and other scholarship winners.
What are the activities available to the JROTC cadets ?
JROTC offers a wide range of activities. Parades, community service, color guard, drill team and rifle marksmanship teams. We are also in the process of adding STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), robotics and computer science teams.
Can I still go out for band and varsity sports ?
Most definitely! JROTC students can be active in any phase of high school. We encourage our cadets to be a part of as many school teams and clubs as possible.
Do I have to wear a uniform ?
Yes! You will be provided an Army uniform, at no cost, that you will wear once a week on the designated uniform day. It is a honor to wear the uniform and that honor will and shall not be taken lightly. This is NOT an option.
Are the JROTC instructors currently in the Armed Forces ?
Our instructors are retired military officers and senior non-commission officers.They are a part of our Manual faculty. They have served all over the world and have a wide variety of experiences.Many are combat veterans.
