National Congress on School Transportation
Since 1939 the National Congresses on School Transportation have been held periodically with the primary objective of ensuring safe, efficient transportation for school children. Since 1980 the 300-plus delegates from around the county who comprise the NCST have convened each five years.
The delegates will deliberate and adopt proposed updates to the 2010 National School Transportation Specifications and Procedures (NSTSP). The Specifications and Procedures are the primary purpose and product of the Congresses, comprising the delegates' formal recommendations for vehicles, equipment, and operational practices that contribute to the objectives of safety and efficiency. As stated within the introduction to the NSTSP, its intended use is that "the specifications for school buses and procedures for operation are available for states to consider when establishing their standards, specifications, recommendations, and guidelines."
Illinois Association for Pupil Transportation
ILAPT was formed in 1973 by transportation providers in the state of Illinois. These individuals saw the need for the strength and unity provided by an association. The goal was to improve transportation services in the state of Illinois.
The American School Bus Council is a coalition of the school transportation community committed to providing safe, effective and healthy transportation for the more than 25 million schoolchildren who ride more than 480,000 school buses each day.
School Bus Fleet Magazine is an information service, a trade magazine serving more than 24,000 school transportation professionals in the U.S. and Canada. Founded in 1956, School Bus Fleet provides a wealth of information on the management and maintenance of school bus fleets operated by public school districts, private schools, Head Start agencies and child are centers.
