Standards-Based Grading

The 2024-2025 school year is a transition year for this new grading system.

Step 1

In the fall of 2024, the SBG grading system will only be applied to non-academic behaviors.

The non-academic behaviors are:

Be Responsible, Be Engaged, Be Respectful, and Be Safe.

Step 2

Starting in the fall of 2025, the SBG grading system described here will apply to ALL academic subjects in grades K-8.

Are you worried about your student's progress?

Do you feel like traditional grading systems don't accurately reflect your child's learning and growth? You're not alone. Many parents share these concerns. With the new research-backed Standards-Based Grading, we focus on your child's understanding of specific learning standards, rather than overall averages. Teachers can better identify student mastery and differentiate lessons appropriate for each level. This leads to positive learning experiences and a greater interest in school because it empowers students to have a better grasp on the path to success as they take ownership of their learning.

This approach provides a clearer picture of your child's strengths and areas for improvement, empowering you to support their learning journey effectively. We are here to guide you and your child through this transition. With our expertise in education and commitment to student success, we'll provide the tools and resources you need to navigate this new grading system.

Why the Change?

Standards-Based Grading is a research-backed approach that focuses on learning rather than earning. Instead of traditional letter grades, students are assessed based on their understanding of specific learning standards. This approach provides a more accurate reflection of a student's academic progress, helping parents and teachers identify where the student is excelling and where they might need additional support. By shifting the focus from grades to learning, we can foster a more positive and productive educational environment for our students.
