I am excited to be joining the staff at The Castle this year. Having taught math in Peoria Public Schools since 1997, my teaching philosophy has evolved over the years. I believe that all students are capable of learning math... they just need to view it the right way. Learning math teaches students to become problem-solvers. It helps students learn to follow steps or procedures from directions or from an example. Learning math helps students to realize that they can do anything as long as they are willing to put in the work. It takes a willingness to try, practice, and perseverance. In my classroom, students are encouraged to make mistakes, because often that is how we learn. It is my desire for my students to become independent thinkers who care more about a process than just getting the right answer.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and future son-in-law! I enjoy going on walks (especially Forest Park Nature Center), going to musicals, traveling with my family, coffee dates with my daughter, and puzzles.
