Speech Team Celebration - Thursday November 29th

I finally have all of the results and awards in, so it is time for our speech team celebration!  It will be after school on Thursday November 29th (2:30-4:15pm).  All students are welcome to come & pick up their feedback, awards, and have a treat!  Students do not need to stay the whole time, although they are welcome to.  Additional treats are welcome.  Please let me know if you have any questions!  Again, congratulations to everyone on a great season!

Hello!

Attached is the finalized speech schedule for this evening!  As a reminder, students need to arrive to Norwood Elementary School at least 20 minutes before their session begins.  The address is 6521 W. Farmington Rd. Peoria.  This will give them time to check in with me and find their room.  I will be in the team meeting space throughout the evening.  Students need to wear uniform pants and Washington spirit wear or a nice top.  I have reminded students all week to not wear sweaters/hoodies/jackets when they perform and make sure to spit out any gum before they perform!

I am excited for this evening and know that the students will do their best!  Break a leg!  I am proud of all of the speech team members!  I know you will be great!

Final Schedule

Email Update 10/22/18

Hello Speech Team Families!

Please take the time to read through this carefully.  There are many important updates and crucial information for our tournament on Friday.  I apologize for my delay in getting the information out to you - I was just emailed the schedule from the tournament host yesterday.  Practice will be held everyday after school this week (except Friday as it is tournament day!).  Students will also be assigned a WIN class to perform for this week.  At the discretion of the students' encore & WIN teachers, they may also come see me to practice during those times.

Where

The address of the tournament is 6521 W Farmington Rd, Peoria, IL 61604 (Norwood Elementary School).  Students need to arrive at least 20 minutes before their round is scheduled to begin.  This will give them time to check in with me, find their performance room, and do a final run through.  If you are late they will NOT let you into the room to perform, so please plan to arrive early!

When

The contest runs from 4pm until 8:30pm.  Students are not required to attend the whole time, however they will need to stay for the full length of their session, as audience members are not permitted to leave during performances.  So if a student is performing in the 1st session, from 4-5pm, they would need to arrive by 3:40pm and would need to stay until all of the performances in their room are done and they are dismissed by the judge (no later than 5pm).  Attached is the schedule of performances.  Please look through the list with your student and note their session time and room number!  Please let me know if there are any issues, such as a student who is in 2 sessions at once, their performance is not listed, or there is a time conflict.  Schedule

What to wear

Students must wear uniform pants and either a uniform shirt or Washington Spirit Wear.  Students with long hair need to tie it back.   When students are performing, they need to remove any sweaters, sweatshirts, or hoodies so as not to nervously play with their sleeves while performing.  In the same manner, students should not wear any jewelry that they might be tempted to fidget with during their performance.   Students should wear shoes that they are comfortable performing in.

Results

Ratings will be posted after each round (usually about 15 minutes after the session on a poster in the hallway).  Students are competing against themselves and will receive either a 1, 2, or 3 rating.  1 being a phenomenal job, and 3 being an average performance.  I will receive the judge's comment sheets after the contest is over and will show them to students the following week, as well as distribute their medals/ribbons.  No medals/ribbons or comment sheets will be handed out the night of the tournament.  IESA Rules

Other Information

If you have not yet sent in your $5 per event registration fee, please bring it to me in an envelope with your name on it by the end of the week.  There typically is an admission fee for spectators to the contest, but I have not yet received this information.  There are also usually concessions available for purchase.  If your student has not yet picked up their spirit wear, they can come to my room at any time and do so!  If your student is in poor academic standing, I will be reaching out to you tomorrow.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions!  On contest night, the fastest way to get a hold of me will be through Remind.  If you have not signed up for that yet, please do so here - Remind Application

Hello Speech Team!

Practice will be offered everyday after school this week, except on Wednesday!  Students must attend one practice this week (either Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday).  Please be sure to attend practice with you partners/group.  Students are welcome to attend more than one practice.

We have a little less than a month to go until the tournament.  As a reminder, our tournament is on October 26th at Peoria Norwood.  Students should be working on having their pieces memorized!  We are going to practice as a whole team on October 11th after school and students need to be memorized!  Please encourage students to spend a little bit of time each day rehearsing their lines!

Please let me know if you have any questions!
