Attendance

We wrapped up our week with 90% attendance. We had 95% on Friday, so we are hopeful that we are getting past this flu bug. Congratulations to Mrs. Gorman's class that finished their week with 96% attendance, and won our weekly attendance challenge. Please, always remember, attendance matters!

Illnesses

We have been experiencing a lot of sickness at Kellar over the past couple of weeks. We still have a lot of students going home or staying home with this horrible sickness. We are seeing Strep, Influenza A, and a Respiratory Virus. Whenever students are sick, please make sure they are symptom free without medication for 24 hours before you send them back to school. We need to do everything we can to help all of our students to stay as healthy as possible!

Muffins with Misses

Bring your mom, grandma, aunt or another special adult for a morning of muffins and refreshments from 7:30am - 8:15am. Muffins with Misses for students with a last name starting with A-M will take place on February 20th and N-Z on February 21st. Please click here to sign up to volunteer.

3rd & 4th Grade IAR Testing

Reading, reading, and more reading! 3rd and 4th grade classes are preparing for the IAR test in March. The test includes long reading passages, so it’s important for students to build the stamina needed to read through them. To support this, please continue filling out reading logs with 30 minutes of reading every night. Remember, readers are leaders!

TAPS Donations

Congratulations Kellar Colts, you donated over 500 items for TAPS! Our 7 Mindsets this month is Attitude is Gratitude and what a great way to give back to our community. Students that brought donations can be out of uniform on Wednesday, February 19th.

Morning Drop Off & Afternoon Pick-up

  1. It is very important that all families follow the established Drop Off & Pick-Up Procedures. Please do not park on the side of the road on Mt. Hawley when dropping off your student. There have been numerous concerns and is a safety issue.

  2. Building Access Policy: Please drop your student off at the door and hallway supervisors can assist them to class if needed. Otherwise, parents will need to sign in at the office before entering the building.

  3. Fire Lane /Bus Lane Parking: During AM/PM Arrival and Dismissal, please park either on the back blacktop or in a designated parking spot. The Fire Lane and the Bus Lane in front of the school must remain clear. This is to ensure safety for all of our students.

  4. If you need to cross the street, please use the designated crosswalk and avoid parking on the sides of the street on Mt. Hawley.

  5. After School Pick-Up: To keep dismissal orderly at the end of the day, when picking students up from the cafeteria, exit 2, by the garbage bin, and exit 3, around the back corner, are for exiting only.  To enter the school building to pick your student(s) up from the cafeteria, please only come through exit 4 located on the right after you completely walk pass the newer playground equipment.  Please share this with anyone who may be coming to pick your student(s) up after school.

  6. If you are going to let your student(s) play on the playground after school or are staying after for some other reason, please move your car to an open spot outside of the fence immediately so the gate can be closed.

Playground Expectations

It is extremely important that every student at Kellar follows our school's playground expectations during school time to keep everyone safe. Please review and discuss these with your student(s).

The Golden Rule: Treat Others as You Would Like to Be Treated

Please encourage your student(s) to make appropriate choices at school and on the bus by reviewing our school wide expectations together.  By signing their student handbook at the beginning of the year, they agreed to follow these expectations. Please make clear to them that you always have the same expectations for them when they are attending school.

Thank you for all you do, no one plays a more important role in the educational success of a student than their family!

Don't forget to shine your Kellar pride!
