Hello! My name is Michael Deg and I teach Health & Physical Education. This is my 11th year teaching. This is my 7th year at Peoria High and I also have taught 4 years at Sterling Middle School. I am also the Varsity Boys Golf Coach. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2011.

Health Class Choice Board

These activities are designed to address various aspects of health, nutrition, and exercise, and can be easily completed within the home environment. Students can choose activities based on their preferences and engage in holistic well-being practices

 Physical Health:

  • Indoor Workout: Follow a home workout routine focusing on cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility exercises. Choose an online fitness video or create your own routine.

 Mental/Emotional Health:

  • Mindfulness Corner: Create a designated mindfulness corner in your house. Decorate it with calming elements and spend 10 minutes daily practicing mindfulness or meditation.

 Social Health:

  • Virtual Social Gathering: Plan and host a virtual gathering with friends or family. Play games, share stories, or engage in activities that foster social connections.

 Nutrition:

  • Healthy Recipe Challenge: Cook a nutritious meal using ingredients available at home. Share the recipe, including nutritional information and a photo of the final dish.

 Emotional Health:

  • Gratitude Journal: Start a gratitude journal. Each day, write down three things you are grateful for. Reflect on how this practice impacts your emotional well-being.

 Exercise:

  • Staircase Fitness: Utilize your staircase for a workout. Design a stair-based exercise routine to improve cardiovascular fitness and leg strength.

 Physical Health (Bonus):

  • Yoga at Home: Follow an online yoga session or use a yoga app to practice poses that promote physical health and relaxation.

 Health (Bonus):

  • Read a health-related article and summarize what the article was about

 Mindful Nutrition (Bonus):

  • Mindful Eating Exercise: Practice mindful eating during one meal. Pay attention to flavors, textures, and your body's hunger/fullness cues.

Fitness Bingo: Learn from Home Edition!

Instructions:

  1. Get Your Bingo Card: Each student will receive a digital bingo card featuring a variety of fitness activities in each square.

  2. Safety First: Ensure you have enough space to exercise safely. Listen to your body and avoid overexertion.

  3. Record Your Progress: Mark off completed activities on your bingo card. Use a digital tool or a marker if you've printed the card.

  4. Share Your Achievements: After completing a line or full house, share it with your class during a virtual meeting or by sending a picture to your teacher.
