Miss Kalena Swan
Library Manager
Author Stephen King once said that "Books are a uniquely portable magic," and I couldn't agree more. Books are an accessible means of adventure, growth, learning, culture, imagination and many other things! Within the pages of a book you can be transported into a land of your making. That is why it is my goal to encourage the wonders of reading to our children by celebrating the many varieties of books in our school library. Kids have the options of easy reads and picture books, graphic novels, fiction chapter books, non-fiction books, and biographies here at Hines Primary School. Each class has a 30 minute library time where they get to choose a book to check out then I spend the rest of the class time reading out loud to them. Story time is my favorite time because witnessing the kid's reactions and understandings of the story is a magic all of its own. The main Library Rule is one book per student and that the books must stay at school. Kids are welcome to recheck out their books if they have not finished reading them. Please encourage at least 30 minutes of reading for your child each day! Reading to your child or listening to your child read to you is an important part of your child's education.
