Welcome to Ms. Gilman's Classroom!

I am Ms. Gilman, and welcome to a new academic school year! There are a lot of new curriculum practices and even a new grade book system for elementary grades this year. We are going to all be learning together, and still have a successful second grade experience.

I will call parents regularly, and we will have to communicate and make connections over the phone.  Please make sure all phone numbers in Skyward are up to date. Keep a current e-mail address on file with the Skyward System; I will send out mass emails to parents with updates too.

There will be a lot of writing, so make sure you have 2 wide ruled note books, and wide ruled loose leaf writing paper.  I would like students to have colored pencils, regular #2 writing pencils, a pink eraser and 2 folders to hold written work.

I'm a structured teacher, but fair.  But I do expect students to work, do rote learning for retention, and not just play around with independent work times, since not every minute on the computers will be teacher lead.

Degrees and Certifications:
Easter Illinois University: 4 years: Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Highly Qualified. St. Xavier University: 2 years: Masters Degree.
*University of Illinois Extension Program, Intern for Master Naturalist.
*Several classes in-between for teaching evaluations/ re-certification every five years.
