Deaf and Hard of Hearing Classroom
Welcome to my page and to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at Dr. Maude Sanders School!
I began my teaching career as an DHH itinerant teacher serving students in Tazewell and Mason Counties for 3 years. I transitioned back to my roots and have taught the last 5 years in Peoria Public Schools in the DHH Pre-K classroom. One of my passions is reading development for DHH students and I am excited to get do even more of that as I transition to Dr. Maude Sanders! I love my career and find great joy in playing the important role of "teacher" in the lives of my students.
My husband and I have two daughters ages 6 and 3. Outside of school I enjoy time with my family, volunteering with high school students, running, organizing, coffee, and when I'm really lucky: reading books.
Education
I grew up in Peoria and attended Peoria Public Schools! I began at Charter Oak, followed by Mark Bills, and I graduated from Richwoods High School. I attended Illinois State University (Go Birds!) for my Bachelors in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education, a certificate in Listening and Spoken Language Development, and a Master's in Special Education.
