As a Social Studies teacher, I believe the skills learned in school can be used not only to further yourself in the classroom, but as a person as well. This is why I chose the Social Science field, because it is so dynamic, and can be used across disciplines, both in and out of school. The skills learned in my classroom will prepare students for whatever lies ahead of them in any endeavor they may choose to take on. The students come first. My goal is to build good citizens who are also well informed about the world around them, not just good students. This semester I really focused on letting my students know the importance of voting. We talked about how your vote matters and your vote is your weapon in the fight for changing your future to how you want it to look. If schools only purpose were to teach students information, they would not exist, because students can learn about whatever they want by looking it up. I believe my job as a teacher is to not only show them the best way to learn the material, but also skills that will apply to things other than just the content being taught in my class.
