Our History

Knoxville Center for Student Success found their new home at the start of the 2008-2009 school year on Knoxville Avenue at the former site of the Social Security Administration. This school previously offered alternative educational services to students in grades 5-8 and support services for concerns related to learning, behavior, and attendance.

Architects allowed the former middle school students to help with the building renovation project, involving them in different aspects from start to finish. Many of the materials used (roofing, flooring, lockers, and furniture) are recycled. Lighting in the classrooms function using light harvesting. A sensitivity cell in the ceiling works to keep the classrooms at a set level of lighting throughout the day. Heat and air are provided by use of geothermal wells located under the parking lot, with energy being sent through pumps that loop throughout the building. A bike rack, shower and washer/dryer are on site.

In the 2011-2012 school year, Knoxville Center began offering an alternative educational setting for students in grades 9-12 and continues to offer support services to students.  This school is small, but students and staff are excited to call it home. In the 2018-2019 school year, the Knoxville Center for Student Success expanded to include evening academies at both Manual and Peoria High School - known respectively as Knoxville Evening Academy at Manual (KEAM) and Knoxville Evening Academy at Peoria High School (KEAPH).
